The 2025 Shanghai International Friendship Cities Cooperation Forum will be held from May 28 to 31 in Shanghai.

Now in its fourth edition, this year's forum aims to promote sustainable development and youth-driven innovation through international collaboration among cities.

The main forum will be held on May 29.

So far, 26 cities from 22 countries have confirmed their participation, including 13 municipal-level friendship cities and one district-level friendship city of Shanghai.

During the forum, Shanghai will sign new cooperation agreements with Vientiane in Laos and Tbilisi in Georgia, further strengthening its global network of partnerships.

The event will also commemorate major milestones in Shanghai's international friendships: the 30th anniversary with Windhoek, Namibia, and the 20th anniversaries with both Cork, Ireland and Jeollabuk-do, South Korea.

Since its launch, the forum has been held three times, attracting strong support from 43 cities in 35 countries, including the UK, Belgium, Greece, Russia, Egypt, the US, Argentina, Japan, and Thailand.

It has become a key platform for exchanging best practices in urban development and governance, expanding trade and business cooperation, and fostering innovation, thereby deepening ties between Shanghai and its international partners.

By January 2025, Shanghai had formed friendship relationships with 95 cities and regions in 59 countries.
