Shanghai expands cooperation in Latin America
Shanghai Vice Mayor Zhang Xiaohong visited Peru and Panama from Nov 30 to Dec 8.
On Dec 1, Zhang and his delegation visited Chancay Port, a landmark project in China-Peru Belt and Road cooperation. They conducted on-site research at the port's automated control room and container and bulk cargo terminals, discussing topics such as port construction, trade shipping, and cooperation with Shanghai Port.
Zhang said that Shanghai, an international shipping center, would deepen cooperation with Chancay Port, further expanding routes to other regions in Asia and Latin America.
He also attended the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between COSCO Shipping Lines Co Ltd and Hass Peru regarding the transportation of agricultural products.
On Dec 2, Zhang and Lima Mayor Rafael Lopez Aliaga signed a memorandum of cooperation and exchange between Shanghai and Lima for the years 2024-26. Aliaga expressed his hope that the two cities could deepen cooperation and bilateral investments. He said he looks forward to attending Shanghai's forum on international friendship cities cooperation in 2025.
During a meeting with Cuzco Mayor Luis Beltran Pantoja Calvo on Dec 3, Zhang highlighted that Shanghai and Cuzco have extensive cooperation opportunities in urban renewal, green buildings, historical buildings preservation, and other areas.
Calvo proposed organizing cultural activities between the two cities. Both cities signed a memorandum of cooperation on historical building preservation during the meeting.
Zhang met with Panama City Mayor Mayer Mizrachi on Dec 5. He expressed his anticipation for shared experiences in smart and green city development. Mizrachi conveyed his optimism for more practical cooperation.
On the same day, Zhang had a dialogue with Mayin Correa, governor of Panama Province, regarding Sino-Panaman friendship and exchanges.
