Shanghai strengthens exchanges in Africa
Chen Jing, president of the Shanghai People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, led a delegation on a visit to Morocco in North Africa and Burkina Faso in West Africa from Dec 1 to 8.
During the visit, the delegation held extensive talks with the two countries concerning commerce and trade, urban governance, healthcare, education, and culture.
In Morocco, Chen met with Casablanca Vice Mayor Abderrahim Outass and invited him to attend the friendship city events in Shanghai next year.
Chen and his delegation visited a brand showroom of SAIC Motor MG in Casablanca and held discussions with overseas dealer representatives.
Casablanca, the largest city in Morocco, established a friendship city relationship with Shanghai in 1986.
A route linking Shanghai and Casablanca will be introduced by China Eastern Air Holding Co Ltd's Shanghai Airlines on Jan 19, 2025, making China Eastern Airlines the first domestic airline to operate this route.
During the visit to Burkina Faso, Chen observed the traditional cultural ceremonies of the Mossi kingdoms.
He also attended several donation events which were held to improve people's quality of life in Burkina Faso.
