The Institute of Trustworthy Embodied Artificial Intelligence (TEAI) at Fudan University is calling for applications for the 2025 Excellent Young Scholars Fund (Overseas) of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

Established in January 2025, TEAI focuses on cutting-edge research and practical applications in embodied artificial intelligence.

The institute is currently seeking outstanding global researchers with an academic backgrounds and innovative abilities to fill several open positions. This recruitment notice remains valid year-round, and interested candidates may submit their CVs at any time.

 

Research directions

  • Foundation models: Develop next-generation embodied foundation models with cross-domain, cross-scenario, and cross-task generalization capabilities, aiming to achieve universal embodied intelligence.
  • Data engine: Build high-quality data engines through multi-source heterogeneous data collection and integration to provide sustainable data support for embodied AI research.
  • Human-like abilities: Explore human-like behaviors, emotions, and interactions to create more natural and humanized embodied experiences.
  • Ontology development: Integrate bionic mechanics and tactile sensing technology to create physical embodiments that are agile, adaptable, and capable of high performance.
  • Trustworthy mechanisms: Research the systematic design, internalization, and evaluation of trustworthy mechanisms to ensure safe, controllable, and human-centered embodied intelligence.

 

Available positions

  • Postdoctoral researchers: Should hold a doctoral degree in a relevant field, with a solid research foundation and innovative abilities. Candidates should generally be under 35 years old.
  • Assistant professors (tenure-track): Should hold a doctoral degree or have postdoctoral experience in a relevant field, with notable research achievements. Candidates should be under 40 years old.
  • Associate professors (tenure-track): Should hold a doctoral degree with independent research experience and international high-level research outcomes. Candidates should be under 40 years old.
  • Tenured associate professors: Should hold a doctoral degree with substantial research experience and international influence in the field. Candidates should generally be under 45 years old.
  • Tenured professors: Should hold a doctoral degree with outstanding academic achievements and significant international influence in the field.
  • Distinguished professors: Should hold a doctoral degree with exceptional academic achievements and the ability to lead the development of the field.

 

Fund application requirements

  • Born on or after Jan 1, 1985.
  • Hold a doctoral degree.
  • Should have held a formal teaching or research position at an overseas university, research institute, or corporate R&D center for at least 36 consecutive months after earning their doctoral degree and before April 15, 2025.
  • Applicants with exceptional achievements and a doctoral degree earned overseas may be eligible for a reduction in the required years of work experience.
  • Should not have taken up full-time employment in China, or those who have been working in China since Jan 1, 2024.
  • Upon approval of the funding, applicants should resign from any overseas positions and commit to full-time work in China for at least three years.

  • Competitive salary ranging from 600,000 yuan ($82,000) to over 1 million yuan, with unlimited research performance bonuses.
