Postdoctoral positions in superconductivity and 2D quantum materials
Shanghai Advanced Research in Physical Sciences (SHARPS) is hiring postdoctoral researchers specializing in experimental condensed matter physics, with a focus on superconductivity and two-dimensional quantum materials.
About SHARPS
Founded in January 2022 under the Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality, SHARPS aims to lead global research in materials under extreme conditions. Since its launch, SHARPS has attracted top scientists from China, the United States, Italy, Germany, Canada, and Serbia.
In 2023, SHARPS was approved to establish the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Material Frontiers Research in Extreme Environments and Academician Workstation, offering researchers additional support. A new Innovation and Praxis Base for Post-doctors was also set up in Pudong in 2024 to further assist postdocs in their research and career growth.
About the position
The project focuses on:
- Developing innovative techniques for thin film synthesis and characterization, nano-device fabrication, and cryogenic magnetization and transport measurements
- Synthesizing and studying unconventional superconductors, 2D quantum materials, and strongly correlated electron systems
- Attempting to discover new and superior superconductors by leveraging atomic-layer-by-layer engineering of novel artificial metastable materials and interface superconductivity
- Studying superconducting heterostructures, Josephson junctions, SQUIDs, nanowires, and their arrays
- Analyzing data, publishing high-impact results, and presenting findings at conferences
- Collaborating extensively with leading research groups at SHARPS, elsewhere in China, and abroad
Eligibility
- Applicants should hold a PhD in condensed matter physics and possess solid hands-on experience with high-vacuum systems, cryogenics, electronics, and transport/magnetic measurements.
- Experience with molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) systems is a plus.
- Bilingual candidates fluent in English and Chinese will be prioritized due to the collaborative nature of the role.
Benefits
- Full-time, 2-year appointment, renewable
- Annual salary: 270,000 yuan (pre-tax; $37,240)
- Living allowance: 100,000 yuan per year (for up to two years)
- Social insurance provided
- Flexible start date
