From April 15, POS machines have been added in all the service centers of Shanghai's metro stations to facilitate the use of foreign bank cards for purchasing metro tickets. These POS machines will be operational for domestic and international card transactions, aiming to streamline the process for foreign visitors using the Shanghai Metro.
In addition, foreigners visiting Shanghai also have the option to register and use the Shanghai Metro Daduhui app, on which they can link foreign bank cards for payment. This allows them to scan the app at the gates for entry and pay for their rides afterward.

Those who have already linked their foreign bank cards to payment platforms such as Alipay, WeChat Pay, or UnionPay, can use these channels within the Shanghai Metro Daduhui app for their travel needs. Notably, Alipay and WeChat Pay support linking five types of foreign cards: Visa, Mastercard, Discover Card, Diners Club, and JCB, while UnionPay supports linking Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club, and JCB cards.
Individuals holding Mastercard or Diners Club cards can directly open the payment channel within the "International Cards" section on the Shanghai Metro Daduhui app's WeChat payment platform, enabling them to use their cards for metro travel.
