Typhoon Pulasan edges closer to Shanghai, bringing heavy rain, wind
Typhoon Pulasan, the 14th typhoon of the year, has shifted its projected landfall northwards, moving closer to Shanghai, according to the Shanghai Meteorological Bureau's announcement this morning.
As of 5 am on Sept 19, the typhoon's center was located 445 kilometers southeast of Xiangshan county in Zhejiang province, with maximum winds reaching Force 9. Pulasan is currently moving northwest at 35-40 km per hour with little change in intensity.
The storm is expected to make landfall between the county-level city of Wenling and Zhoushan city in Zhejiang later today. In Shanghai, scattered showers this morning will intensify in the afternoon, with thunderstorms possible in some areas.
Gusts of wind in coastal and high-rise areas may reach Force 8-9. Temperatures are expected to drop slightly, ranging from 26-31 C.
Shanghai issued blue warnings for both typhoons and high tides on Sept 18, signaling a return to defensive measures.
Following Pulasan's landfall, complex atmospheric patterns may bring more rain around Sept 21. Cooler temperatures are expected next week, with forecasts predicting a drop to the 20s C.
