The Shanghai Science Festival 2026 is scheduled to take place from May 23 to 31, with over 250 science education bases across the city offering unique science popularization events and 54 technology innovation platform bases opening their doors to the public.

Continuing with the theme "technology makes life better", the festival aims to create an interactive platform where cutting-edge technology and urban life can deeply intersect, fostering a citywide celebration of science and innovation, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Science and Technology said at a news briefing on Tuesday.

Key focuses include promoting the spirit of scientists and cultivating scientific thinking among young people. The event will also showcase Shanghai's recent achievements in emerging industries, such as quantum technology, brain-computer interfaces and nuclear fusion.

A highlight of this year's festival will be the reopening of the newly upgraded Shanghai Science and Technology Museum. The facility now boasts 10 permanent exhibition areas, covering frontier topics, such as artificial intelligence, quantum technology, energy materials, aerospace and ecological health. Visitors can also enjoy diverse experiential spaces, including the future-oriented innovation camp, and IMAX, dome and 4D theaters.
