European dining, special menus, and discounts across Shanghai
The 2026 Global Taste in Shanghai program kicked off on Jan 9, opening with its first themed chapter, European Flavor Season.
In the weeks ahead, diners can enjoy everything from authentic Neapolitan wood-fired pizza to classic French desserts and Italian specialties, as restaurants across the city roll out themed dishes and value-focused set menus.
Ahead of the launch, members of the media previewed several participating restaurants. Many are already well-known favorites among local diners, but for the European Flavor Season, they have introduced new menu items or specially curated sets created for the occasion.
Cathay Room, Fairmont Peace Hotel
Cathay Room has unveiled a new afternoon tea set crafted by its pastry chef team. The menu includes refined savory bites such as foie gras terrine, offering an elevated twist on the traditional afternoon tea experience.
Mercato by Jean-Georges
In operation for more than a decade, this Italian restaurant is best known for its signature black truffle pizza, baked in a wood-fired oven that gives it a distinctive aroma. Popular with both international visitors and Shanghai locals, it remains a reliable choice when pizza is on the mind.
Scarpetta Trattoria
Famous for its burrata pizza, Scarpetta serves Italian dishes well suited to a shared dining style familiar to Chinese diners. A small but thoughtful detail, with fresh basil leaves cut tableside, adds a sense of ceremony to the experience.
CAPRI
Specializing in traditional Neapolitan pizza baked in an authentic Italian oven, CAPRI is known for its thin base and crisp edges. First-time visitors may want to start with the classic Quattro Stagioni, which allows diners to sample several flavors in a single pizza.
For diners seeking approachable savings, the most immediate appeal is the tangible value. More than 200 European-style restaurants across Shanghai are participating in the program, offering special set menus.
Participating venues range from five-star hotel restaurants and chef-driven dining destinations to neighborhood, family-run eateries. Options range from casual tasting menus to full-course meals suited for anniversaries and special occasions. During the campaign, diners can enjoy discounts starting from 40 percent off via Dianping or directly at participating restaurants.
Beyond individual venues, several major shopping areas have introduced "food plus" experiences as part of Global Taste in Shanghai.
Xintiandi
Home to 26 international dining venues, including 10 European-style restaurants, Xintiandi brings together Michelin-listed and Black Pearl restaurants, making it an ideal destination for dining.
Jin Jiang International Hotels
Several of Jin Jiang's high-end hotels are rolling out seasonal themed menus throughout the year, along with culinary showcases by visiting international chefs.
Amphibio Paradiso (Opening Jan 22 in Pudong New Area)
Featuring nearly 30 Michelin-awarded and Michelin-recommended restaurants, many making their China debut, the mall will offer dining promotions with 20 percent off for these Michelin restaurants through the end of March.
Global Harbor (Jan 17 to March 3)
With themed international food zones and a global Chinese New Year market, nearly 60 dining brands will take part, creating a lively destination for holiday dining and festive shopping.
