Shanghai lines up 30 summer events
Shanghai is rolling out 30 themed events from June through August, inviting residents and visitors to experience the city's contemporary entertainment, cultural heritage, and everyday charm at a more leisurely pace.
The summer lineup is built around three major citywide programs — Shanghai Tonight, Shanghai Summer International Consumption Season, and Shanghai Tourism Festival — offering a diverse mix of daytime and nighttime activities.
The 30 events span arts and culture, retail promotions, tourism festivals, sports competitions, and exhibitions, catering to both casual urban exploration and family-friendly outings.
June highlights
The 2026 Shanghai Tonight series opened on June 6 at Zhangyuan in Jing'an district, bringing nearly 200 nighttime events to commercial areas, waterfront spaces, parks, museums, and neighborhoods across the city.
Shanghai Disney Resort continues its 10th anniversary celebrations throughout the month. On June 15, the Lego Festival made its China debut at Legoland Shanghai Resort, featuring the global launch of five newly designed themed zones.
A series of public events is also being rolled out across the city, including a citywide table tennis carnival, the China Billiards Club Professional League, and a soccer-themed carnival presented by Bailian Group.

July highlights
Running through August, the Second Shanghai Summer International Anime Month features major ACGN events including Bilibili World, China International Cartoon and Game Expo (CCG Expo), ChinaJoy, and the China International Game Developers Conference (CIGDC).
In technology, the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) will be held at multiple venues, including the Shanghai World Expo Center, the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Convention Center, Zhangjiang, and Xuhui West Bund, showcasing cutting-edge scientific and technological achievements.
Sports competitions will also be in full swing, with the 2026 Shanghai E-Prix, part of the Formula E World Championship, alongside the World Snooker Shanghai Masters, bringing leading international athletes to the city.
Music in the Summer Air will return with a series of summer concerts. Meanwhile, A House of Nobility: Aesthetics and Cultivation of Life in the Mawangdui Han Tombs will explore aristocratic aesthetics in the early Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24).
The exhibition organizers will also partner with hotels and commercial brands to offer experiences covering dining, accommodation, travel, shopping, and wellness.
The 7th Shanghai Chao Festival will combine trendy entertainment, nighttime shopping, and food experiences, while the Shanghai Zhuanghang Fuyang Festival will highlight Jiangnan culture through local culinary traditions. Fuyang refers to the custom of eating mutton during the hottest days of summer, a long-standing local tradition associated with seasonal nourishment.

August highlights
Family-friendly options will expand further in August, ranging from study tours and theme-park outings to pet interactions, with Pet Fair Asia among the highlights.
The city's summer sports and esports calendar will remain active, featuring the NBA Shanghai basketball celebration, The International 2026 (Dota 2's annual world championship tournament), and the China Game Innovation Competition. The events will be held in succession and are expected to fuel public enthusiasm for sports and esports.
