Songjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone
The Songjiang Economic and Technological Development Zone was established in 1992 and upgraded to a national zone by the State Council in 2013.
As a gateway to the Yangtze River Delta region, Songjiang district, located in the southwest of Shanghai, has been positioned by the government as a high-tech innovation hub in the region.
Covering an area of 57.77 square kilometers, the core area of Songjiang ETDZ consists of four areas: the eastern area serves as an innovation park featuring intelligent manufacturing industries; the comprehensive bonded zone is a bonded area for free trade; the central area is a cluster of foreign-invested enterprises centered on advanced manufacturing; and the western area is a high-tech park dominated by the high-tech and modern services industries.
Songjiang is one of the major advanced manufacturing hubs in Shanghai, and has a solid industrial foundation that gives it a competitive edge. Throughout its years of development, Songjiang has supported robust traditional industries, such as electronic information, modern equipment, fine chemicals, and food and beverages.
To push the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry, Songjiang has developed a series of strategic emerging industries in recent years, such as in artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, new energy, biomedicine, smart security and new materials.
Songjiang supports the establishment of foreign-funded R&D centers. Foreign-funded R&D institutions accredited by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce are provided with a maximum subsidy of 3 million yuan ($419,400).
At present, the zone has attracted nearly 2,000 registered companies, including more than 50 Fortune Global 500 companies, including Ford, Panasonic, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, Essilor, Pepsi-Co, and Nestle.
In the future, Songjiang ETDZ will strive to make breakthroughs in technological innovation and key technical fields, optimize and upgrade the existing industrial system, and build the zone into an open and innovative multi-functional industrial park.
