Shanghai Hongqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone
Located in the west part of the urban area of Shanghai, the Shanghai Hongqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone is the smallest national development zone, just 0.652 square kilometers in size, and the only development zone with foreign consulates.
The zone was established in 1983 and upgraded by the State Council to national level in 1986, one of the first 14 national development zones.
Twenty years of development has made the Hongqiao ETDZ a cluster of modern services and the exposition industry. The development zone features international trading malls, pavilions and a world-class expo atmosphere, which makes it a regional center for international commerce.
The zone has hosted over 1,300 expositions and attracted over 15 million visitors. It's also home to the offices of over 2,700 agencies, multinationals and foreign consulates of the United States, Japan, Australia, Switzerland, Argentina and other countries.
