Applying for an exit-entry permit
Who can apply
Foreign nationals applying for an exit-entry permit must meet one of the following conditions:
- A foreign national in China who does not hold a valid passport or other international travel document because it has been lost, damaged, stolen or forcibly taken, and who is unable to obtain a replacement from the embassy or consulate of their home country in China, must submit a Confirmation of Reporting the Loss of Passport or an official note from the embassy or consulate, or present the damaged or invalid document together with a temporary identity certificate used in place of a passport.
- Other cases in which the National Immigration Administration deems an exit-entry permit necessary shall be handled in accordance with relevant regulations.
How to apply
Applicants must apply in person at the exit-entry administration department of a public security organ and attend an interview. They can schedule service appointments and check the status of their exit-entry permit applications through the Government Service Platform of the National Immigration Administration.
To schedule an appointment online, first register on the NIA service platform using a passport or Foreign Permanent Residence ID Card.
After logging in, select "Service Appointment".
Then select "Exit-Entry Permit".
