What to do if I want to keep two dogs?
Q: My wife and I are thinking about moving to Shanghai from Brazil next year. However, we have two small dogs. I am aware of the one-dog-per-home policy. What solutions/options do we have?
A: According to Shanghai's regulations on dog management, each household is permitted to keep only one dog in urban areas. The term "household" refers to a "residential property", meaning that one property may have only one registered dog.
You must either transfer the extra dog to another person or organization that meets the conditions specified in the regulations for keeping dogs, or send it to an approved dog shelter.
If you choose to keep an unregistered dog, penalties will be imposed once it is discovered.
