Shanghai's international cruise terminals have seen a surge in activity this summer due to summer holidays, new visa policies for foreign tour groups on cruise ships, and other positive factors.

Since July 1, the Pujiang branch station of the Shanghai General Station of Immigration Inspection has handled the arrival and departure of over 40 cruise ships in Shanghai's international cruise terminals, welcoming more than 143,000 passengers.

As summer vacation kicks off in China (usually from July 1 to Aug 31), families and young travelers have been a common sight at the port, especially in parent-child travel groups.

In July, around 21.6 percent of passengers were primary and secondary school students, marking an impressive 80 percent increase from the previous month.

With China expanding visa-free options and introducing more traveler-friendly policies like the 144-hour visa-free transit, more foreigners are opting to visit the country.

The visa-free policy for foreign tour groups on cruises has made cruise travel more convenient and attractive, leading to a rise in repeat cruise travelers.

This summer, travelers have had a wider choice of cruise routes, as both Chinese and international cruise companies have expanded their presence in the local market.

Six large cruise ships including the Adora Magic City and the Spectrum of the Seas have begun operating from Shanghai this year, offering diverse cruise experiences.

The port has seen multiple cruise ships docking at the same time, demonstrating its ability to handle increased cruise traffic and cementing Shanghai's reputation as a top cruise destination.
