From May 16 to 18, the 2025 China International Women's Rowing Elite Race will be held at the Jinhuigang River in Shanghai's Fengxian district. In anticipation of the event, athletes from around the world have embarked on a cultural journey through Fengxian.

Qingcun town in Fengxian district has a history of a thousand years, with its white-walled, black-tiled architecture and numerous bridges crafting a picturesque scene. At the town's Qingxi Old Street, the athletes had the opportunity to experience the charm of traditional boating.

Guided by professional boatmen, they took the helm themselves and tried their hand at steering the boat. Australian athlete Lara Glendinning noted that, unlike competitive rowing, which predominantly relies on leg strength, steering a traditional boat demands greater hand control.

The rowers mimicked the boatmen, standing with legs apart for balance, eyes focused ahead, as they smoothly propelled the boat forward. Italian rower Roberta Blanda noted that while racing required speed and constant vigilance, being on the boat was incredibly relaxing. The experience reminded her of the gondolas in Venice. She added that they were all impressed by the area's beautiful scenery and delicious food, expressing a desire to return, perhaps even to live there in the future.
