Following China's rollout of several visa-free policies, the country has seen a surge in international tourists, with Shanghai standing out as a leading global metropolis.

For many international travelers, the transition from Shanghai's bustling modernity to the tranquil waterways of the ancient town offers a fresh perspective on China.

First-time visitor, Idris Patel, was enticed by Qingpu's historical richness and natural allure through online sources and personal recommendations. His experience highlighted the contrast between Zhujiajiao's ancient allure and the vibrant pulse of modern China, while the warmth of local hospitality deepened his anticipation for exploring the city and the country.

The region's distinctive cuisine is also a major attraction for international tourists. Signature dishes such as sweet osmanthus lotus root, sticky rice dumplings, and braised pork captivate visitors' palates and offer a taste of local culinary tradition.

At the same time, Qingpu's nighttime economy is flourishing. In Xianghuaqiao subdistrict, a strong expat presence is supported by multinational corporations and international trade firms. The area's international hotels remain popular with foreign tourists, while local bars have become favored gathering spots for the expat community.

Xie Yuxin, a cafe manager in the town, noted that when the shop opened in 2021, it mainly served domestic customers. Since the extension of the visa-free transit policy, however, foreign tourists have grown to account for about a third of its clientele.

To enhance the visitor experience, the ancient town has recently upgraded its facilities with advanced technology. The town's information and service center now boasts 200 multilingual smart guide devices, providing real-time commentary in languages such as Chinese, English, Korean, and Japanese. Additionally, rental services and ATMs compatible with foreign cards are also available, ensuring convenience for international visitors.
