Blossoms Shanghai TV series sparks culinary craze
The TV series Blossoms Shanghai, directed by Wong Kar-wai, has created a culinary sensation in Shanghai.
Here are some of the notable restaurants benefiting from the craze.
1. Tai Sheng Yuan
This eatery is the inspiration for the fictitious Zhi Zhen Yuan restaurant in the series. Since its broadcast, online sales have skyrocketed by 170 percent and group purchase orders have increased by 240 percent.

2. Fairmont Peace Hotel
A landmark depicted in the TV series, the hotel has witnessed a welcome surge in visitor numbers. As a result of all the hoopla, it's introduced a new set menu featuring dishes from the show, quickly selling out despite the two-person set meals costing 1,460 yuan ($204).

3. Xian De Lai
Shanghai classics like pork chops and rice cakes, which are featured in the TV drama, have become even more popular as a result. Xian De Lai, a time-honored restaurant in Shanghai's South Yunnan Road, is nowadays welcoming hordes of new customers.

4. Xin Mei Ju

Established in 1986, Xin Mei Ju has become a favorite for mutton among locals. It is also the prototype of the Xin Lan Ju mutton restaurant that caught the attention of the protagonists, A Bao and Li Li, in the show. The restaurant turned the entire East Ninghai Road into a hotspot for mutton dishes.
5. Xing Hua Lou

With a history dating back to 1851, during the Xianfeng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), Xing Hua Lou started as a catering business and gained fame through its mooncakes.

Its Dingsheng cake has become a symbol of happiness and longevity for traditional Shanghainese, often used during housewarming parties and birthday celebrations.
6. Chuansha Bridge Chicken Claws

The mention of delicious chicken claws in the TV series has led locals from Chuansha town in Pudong New Area to believe it refers to the Chuansha Bridge chicken claws. This store, which has been in operation for over 30 years, was initially located at Nanmen Bridge and later moved to Xinde Road. Recent reports suggest that many fans of the TV series have been visiting this establishment.
