Shanghai Yongfeng Art Garden
Located on Hengsha Island in Chongming district, Shanghai Yongfeng Art Garden is a rural revitalization tourism project jointly developed by Fengle village and Xinyong village. Spanning 22 hectares, the site features 17.33 hectares of rice-field art and was designated a national AAA tourist attraction in 2020.
The project began in 2018, with a 2-hectare pilot rice-field painting that quickly drew widespread attention. In 2019, using rice as the brush and the earth as the canvas, the garden unveiled six sequential works depicting the story of the critically endangered Yangtze finless porpoise.
On Oct 24, 2019, its rice-field painting measuring 79,505.188 square meters entered the Guinness World Records as the largest of its kind.
The landscape evolves with the seasons, offering an ever-changing canvas that extends beyond rice-field art. In spring 2020, vibrant rapeseed blossoms and an 8-hectare land-art painting attracted tens of thousands of visitors. In 2021, motifs from the China Flower Expo were woven into the rice-field designs. In 2023, two land-art creations were produced: one themed around the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Shanghai Chongming Masters, the other celebrating Hengsha Island's signature oranges, golden rice, and lush farmland scenery.
Beyond its rural charm, the scenic area incorporates modern technology and popular tourism experiences. Visitors can explore dedicated photo spots, a village stage, VR activities, a bamboo-weaving heritage hall, and more.
Here, farming experience, traditional culture, nature education, and outdoor exploration come together, turning each visit into a living classroom where children learn through discovery and play.
