Autumn colors in full splendor at Baoshan Temple
Shanghai's Baoshan Temple is now cloaked in the rich colors of autumn, with its maple trees glowing in brilliant red, a seasonal highlight for visitors and photographers alike.
Celebrated as "the city's finest example of Tang-style architecture", the temple serves not only as a spiritual sanctuary but also as a living museum of late Tang (618-907) aesthetics and craftsmanship.
Dating back to 1511 and later had been restored, the complex spans approximately 12,000 square meters. Its structures embody a solemn and sturdy style, built entirely using traditional wooden joinery, without a single iron nail, showcasing the exquisite craftsmanship of traditional Chinese architecture.
The temple's landscape design follows Tang-era landscape principles, with pines, cypresses, pagoda trees, and osmanthus arranged among flowing streams and scholar's rocks, each turn revealing a new vista.
With the autumn ambiance deepening, this is an ideal time to visit and experience the temple's timeless charm and elegance.
Near the entrance, two maple trees stand in striking contrast against the reddish-brown corridors. Strolling along the covered walkways, visitors can admire the poetic interplay of foliage and Tang-style eaves through wooden lattices.
