ICH chrysanthemum artistry on display in Putuo
The Yichuan Park intangible cultural heritage (ICH) chrysanthemum exhibition will kick off on Nov 11. Come to Shanghai's Putuo district for this annual autumn celebration!
The exhibition's centerpiece will be over 70 beautiful chrysanthemum specimens spanning 20 varieties, beautifully cultivated by Zhao Zhangyong, the eighth-generation descendant of the Shanghai municipal-level intangible cultural heritage "Chrysanthemum Planting Techniques of Zhaojia Garden".
With decades of experience in grafting techniques, Zhao has developed exceptional skills in growing chrysanthemums. His flowers feature sturdier stems and more voluminous shapes, with petals that blend traditional elegance and modern style.
This year, Zhao's chrysanthemums will extend beyond Yichuan Park to bloom in various communities in Putuo. Furthermore, the planting methods will be unveiled at Gongqing National Forest Park.
On Nov 14, the Yichuan Community Cultural Activity Center will host a botanical education lecture. Attendees can learn chrysanthemum cultivation techniques directly from the ICH inheritor. Participants will have the opportunity to hand-print chrysanthemum silhouettes and colors onto tote bags and bookmarks, enabling them to take home a tangible piece of autumn's floral beauty.
Come to Putuo district and experience the timeless charm of traditional chrysanthemum culture.
