Metro gears up for holiday travel rush with extra services

To meet increased travel demand during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush, which lasts from Jan 14 to Feb 22, Shanghai Metro has extended operating hours and provided extra services. 

 

Extended operating hours 

If you're not traveling for the holidays but still want to enjoy shopping or entertainment in downtown Shanghai on the weekend, no need to worry about missing the last metro home!

During the 40-day holiday travel period, lines 1, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 13 extend their service hours to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Extra trains 

If you're planning to return to Shanghai by air or rail after Spring Festival but are concerned about missing the last metro, you can rest assured.

From Feb 2 to Feb 4, Metro Lines 1, 2, 9, 10, 17, and the Airport Link Line will add extra trains, running until midnight. Every Sunday during the 40-day travel rush period, Metro Line 2 also have additional trains.

If you plan to take the added express trains, please note that:

  • Some stations allow passengers to disembark only, with no boarding allowed (usually railway and airport stations allow passengers to board).
  • Some stations may be skipped, with trains only stopping at designated stations.
  • Be aware of the latest departure time from the origin station.

 

The following charts provide the departure times and stop locations for each line:

Line 1

- From Shanghai South Railway Station to Fujin Road: After the last regular train (10:42 pm), four additional trains will run to Fujin Road.

- From Shanghai Railway Station to Xinzhuang: After the last regular train (11 pm), four additional trains will run to Xinzhuang Station.

 

Line 2

From Hongqiao Railway Station to Longyang Road: After the last regular train (11:30 pm), two additional trains will run.

 

Line 9

- From Shanghai Songjiang Railway Station to Middle Yanggao Road: After the last regular train (10:30 pm), five additional trains will run.

- From Zhongchun Road to Shanghai Songjiang Railway Station: After the last regular train (11:39 pm), two additional trains will run.

- From Hongqiao Terminal 2 to Pudong Terminal 1&2: After the last regular train (10 pm), four additional trains will run.

- From Pudong Terminal 1&2 to Hongqiao Terminal 2: After the last regular train (10 pm), four additional trains will run.

 

In addition, during the return peak period from Feb 2 to Feb 5, Shanghai Metro will arrange extra services before and after the first trains on metro lines that connect to railways and airports.
