Crystal Bridge, a new mixed-use commercial complex in Shanghai's Changning district, has opened to the public. Unlike a traditional enclosed mall, it features an open setting that combines public art, landscaped green spaces, retail, dining, and cultural experiences.

Public art is central to Crystal Bridge's identity. One of the complex's signature installations is Aperture, a transparent circular structure integrated into the building's facade. During the day, it blends seamlessly with the architecture. At night, illuminated circular light bands synchronize with the mall's lighting show, creating a dramatic visual effect.

Artist Liu Yi has created the permanent Light Messenger installation for Crystal Bridge, featuring eight illuminated pieces that activate after dusk. Additionally, a two-month interactive art exhibition space has opened, providing visitors with another chance to experience contemporary art.

Five office buildings are linked by elevated walkways, forming an open public space with a garden-like setting. The area includes three sunken plazas, a rooftop garden, and an outdoor amphitheater that regularly hosts performances, talks, and community events.

The commercial area is home to a diverse array of restaurants, retail stores, and fitness studios, including several brands making their neighborhood debut. The ground floor hosts all-day dining venues that cater to everything from quick lunches to late-night gatherings.

Visitors can also visit a photography exhibition at the complex. Located on the third floor, the China National Geography photography exhibition features six themed galleries displaying rare scientific expedition photos and immersive light-and-image displays inspired by mountains, oceans, and nature. The exhibition is open until Jan 3, 2027.
