The construction of the venue for the Olympic Qualifier Series 2024 Shanghai has entered the final stage, according to the event organizers.

The OQS will be held at the Shanghai World Expo Park near the Huangpu River waterfront from May 16 to 19. An urban park is under construction to host four trendy and energetic street-style sports — breaking, BMX freestyle, skateboarding, and sport climbing.

Chinese track cycling world and Olympic champion Zhong Tianshi was one of the first VIP guests to test the BMX bike field ahead of the event.

"When it was announced that (Shanghai) would host the Olympic Qualifier Series, I was very excited. I am expecting the Chinese athletes to successfully obtain Olympic qualifications with the home advantage, and accumulate more experience, which can help them break through the upcoming Paris Olympics," said Zhong on April 23.

The urban park covers an area of 110,000 square meters, including 6,000 square meters for competitions. The construction is being jointly done by Hurricane Group, Shanghai Mechanized Construction Group, and Ulanqab Aolifeng Sports Equipment Co., Ltd.

Lin Dixuan, the project director of Hurricane Group, who was responsible for building the three areas for breaking, skateboarding, and BMX freestyle, stated that from design to construction, the areas are built according to international standards.

Chen Youxu, the project engineer of Shanghai Mechanized Construction Group, said the overall construction of the urban park will be completed by May 5.
