The motorcycle racing will be held on Sept 14-16 at the Shanghai International Off-Road Circuit. This marks the championship's grand comeback to China after a four-year hiatus, following its debut in Shanghai back in 2019.

Regarded as one of the premier and most popular motorbike racing events globally, the MXGP attracts a massive following and showcases top-notch racing talent.

In 2019, the event drew around 25,000 spectators to the Shanghai International Off-Road Circuit in Fengxian district, positioning itself as the 10th most prominent sports event in Shanghai and ranking it 7th in terms of economic influence and industry stimulation among major sporting events.

The 2024 MXGP season kicked off in Argentina on March 10 and will conclude with the Spanish leg on Sept 29. The Shanghai stop, scheduled as the penultimate event, is expected to be a crucial showdown for riders vying for the annual championship title.

Over 30 teams from 20 countries and regions, featuring more than 70 riders, will compete across three categories – the MXGP (450CC), MX2 (250CC) and Youth (85CC).

The MXGP category will boast the presence of renowned champions such as Slovenia's Tim Gajser, French team captain Romain Febvre, Spanish prodigy Jorge Prado and Dutch speedster Jeffrey Herlings.

The MX2 category promises a youthful spectacle with the likes of Liam Everts – son of legendary rider Stefan Everts – and Andrew Adamo, a protege of eight-time world champion Antonio Cairoli. Additionally, Chinese riders will partake in the high-stakes competition, aiming to secure wildcard entries.

Ticket sales for the event have already commenced, offering various options including single-day tickets and two-day passes. Prices range from 120 yuan ($16.50) to 880 yuan, with early bird discounts available until Aug 12.

Tickets can be purchased through multiple platforms such as Damai, Ctrip, Douyin and others.

The Shanghai International Off-Road Circuit, purpose-built for hosting the MXGP event, boasts the only track in China meeting FIM standards. The track runs for about 2 kilometers with 16 ramps, the highest reaching 4.5 meters and the widest spanning 60 meters in a unique 'Xian (贤)' shape, implying Fengxian district.

Coinciding with the Mid-Autumn Festival holiday, the event will feature a carnival atmosphere with the theme "Watch the Race, Explore Fengxian".

Activities including motorcycle stunts, electronic music performances, displays of Shanghai handicrafts, night markets and shopping bazaars will be part of the festivities. The organizers say the MXGP in Shanghai aims to bridge sports – with culture, tourism, commerce and exhibitions, showcasing the city's charms and accelerating its journey towards becoming a globally renowned sports city.

Fans are being urged to get ready for a thrilling display of speed and excitement at this year's MXGP World Motocross Championship in Shanghai.
