Shanghai Marathon: Traffic controls and no-entry zones
The 2025 Shanghai Marathon is just around the corner. To ensure safety and smooth operations, temporary traffic controls will be implemented on several downtown roads from Nov 29 to 30.
1. Nov 29, 11 pm – Nov 30, 8 am
The following roads will be closed to all vehicles and pedestrians:
- Nansuzhou Road (both directions, East Zhongshan Road Number One – Middle Henan Road)
- East Beijing Road (both directions, East Zhongshan Road Number One – Middle Henan Road)
- Dianchi Road (both directions, East Zhongshan Road Number One – Middle Jiangxi Road)
- Tianjin Road (Middle Jiangxi Road – Middle Henan Road)
- East Nanjing Road (East Zhongshan Road Number One – Middle Henan Road)
- Jiujiang Road (East Zhongshan Road Number One – Middle Henan Road)
- Hankou Road (East Zhongshan Road Number One – Middle Henan Road)
- Guangdong Road (East Zhongshan Road Number One – Middle Henan Road)
- Fuzhou Road (East Zhongshan Road Number One – Middle Henan Road)
- Yuanfang Alley (East Zhongshan Road Number One – Middle Sichuan Road)

2. Nov 30, 4:30 am – 8 am
The following roads and bridges will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians:
- Middle Jiangxi Road (East Yan'an Road – Nansuzhou Road)
- Middle Sichuan Road (East Yan'an Road – Nansuzhou Road)
- Waibaidu Bridge
- Zhapu Road Bridge
- Sichuan Road Bridge

3. Nov 30, 4:30 am – 8 am
East Zhongshan Road Number One (both directions, Waibaidu Bridge – Dongmen Road) will be closed to vehicles.

4. Nov 30, 6:15 am – 8 am
- Yan'an Elevated Road exit to Jiangxi Road (ground direction) will be closed
- East Yan'an Road (both directions, East Zhongshan Road Number One – Middle Henan Road) will be closed to vehicles
- The Bund Tunnel north-to-south exit to East Yan'an Road (ground) will be closed

5. Nov 30, 6:30 am – 8:30 am
Renmin Road Tunnel exit to South Henan Road will be temporarily closed.

6. Nov 30, 6:40 am – 8:30 am
Yan'an Elevated Road exit to Huashan Road will be temporarily closed.

7. Nov 30, 6:50 am – 9 am
North-South Elevated Road exit to Huaihai Road will be temporarily closed.

8. Nov 30, 7 am – 11:30 am
South Xizang Road Tunnel exit to East Longhua Road will be temporarily closed.

9. Nov 30, 6:45 am – 1:30 pm
Traffic controls will be implemented along the marathon route as runners approach:
East Zhongshan Road Number One → East Zhongshan Road Number Two → Xinkaihe Road → Renmin Road → South Henan Road → Middle Henan Road → East Nanjing Road → Hubei Road → Jiujiang Road → West Nanjing Road → Huashan Road → Changshu Road → Middle Huaihai Road → Madang Road → Xingye Road → South Huangpi Road → Zizhong Road → Jinan Road → Hubin Road → South Huangpi Road → Middle Huaihai Road → South Xizang Road → Gaoxiong Road → Zhizaoju Road → East Longhua Road → Bansongyuan Road (U-turn at Huayuangang Road) → Bansongyuan Road → Miaojiang Road → Bansongyuan Road → Lujiabang Road → Waima Road → Huangpu Riverside Walkway → East Longhua Road → Furun Road → Jiangbin Road → Ruining Road → Longteng Avenue (U-turn at Jinmugang Road) → Longteng Avenue → Fenggu Road (U-turn at Yunjin Road) → Fenggu Road → Longteng Avenue → East Longheng Road → South Wanping Road → Longhua Road → West Longhua Road → South Zhongshan Road Number Two → Finish at Gate 12 of Shanghai Stadium
Traffic control details:
- Multi-lane roads with center dividers: lanes in the race direction will be closed; opposite lanes may remain open if conditions allow.
- Roads without center dividers: closed to motor vehicles in both directions.
- Roads with bicycle lanes: non-motor vehicles should keep right or use sidewalks (some roads will restrict same-direction non-motor vehicle traffic).
- Roads without bicycle lanes: non-motor vehicles prohibited.
- Vehicles may cross the route only when safe and under police direction.
10. Only vehicles with marathon course access permits are allowed on controlled roads during the event.
Bus routes overlapping with the marathon will be suspended, shortened, or detoured. Control times and areas may be adjusted based on actual race conditions. The public is advised to plan travel in advance.
