The Shanghai Equestrian Masters will take place from Sept 28 to 30 at the Shanghai Juss International Equestrian Center, serving as the centerpiece of the 2026 Shanghai International Horse Culture Carnival and marking the city's first high-level show jumping competition to bear its name.

Event schedule

Show jumping competitions and related activities take center stage on Sept 28 and 29. The opening ceremony on Sept 29 will begin at 6:30 pm with a light show, a concert by the Shanghai Opera House, and a dressage performance, followed by the International Team Relay Competition as the evening's finale.

The 105-145 cm relay will pair Chinese and international riders on mixed teams, with the international riders providing on-site mentoring during the competition.

The International Dressage Charity Show follows on Sept 30.

Isabell Werth to perform at opening ceremony

Isabell Werth, the German rider known as the Queen of Dressage, will appear at the opening ceremony, where she will perform in a dressage routine.

Werth has competed in seven Olympic Games since 1992, earning a record 14 Olympic medals in equestrian sport, including eight golds. She is also a 10-time FEI World Championship gold medalist.

Top German riders to compete

The event is being held in collaboration with the German Equestrian Federation, bringing five German show jumping riders to Shanghai: Olympic eventing gold medalist Sandra Auffarth, who has transitioned to show jumping; 2024 German national show jumping champion Patrick Stuehlmeyer; Jens Wawrauschek, a consistent performer on the international circuit; and two U25 rising stars, Johanna Beckmann and Calvin Boeckmann.

Equestrian carnival brings the sport to the public

The 2026 Shanghai International Horse Culture Carnival will run from Sept 27 to Oct 7, spanning 11 days. Five core competitions anchor the program: the Shanghai Equestrian Masters, the International Dressage Charity Show, the Rising Star Equestrian Tour Final, the China City Polo Open, and the 2026 Emirates Arabian Horse Global Cup – China. A series of equestrian promotion activities will complement the competitions, including exhibitions and sales, educational programs, and interactive experiences.
