SISU international student volunteer program: Applications now open
Shanghai International Studies University is inviting its international students to participate in a community volunteer initiative in Hongkou district.
Focusing on talent services, the program offers a valuable opportunity to gain firsthand insight into China's public service system while strengthening cross-cultural communication skills.
Registration is now open. Details are provided below.
Job duties
- Provide English reception and translation support at the overseas talent service counter
- Advise on policies for talent, residency, work, and related issues
- Facilitate business procedures for foreign nationals through clear, procedural guidance
Flexible schedule
Starting January 2026, volunteers may select half-day weekday shifts:
- Morning: 8:30 am to 11:30 am
- Afternoon: 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm
The program is designed to fit smoothly around your studies, and fixed schedules are welcome as well.

Hongkou District Government Service Center, No 59 Sanhe Road
Benefits
- Official volunteer service certificate, along with service hours recorded on the "Suishenban" app
- Subsidy of 16 yuan ($2.26) per hour with insurance coverage included
- Pre-service training and ongoing guidance to strengthen your professional skills
Requirements
- Current SISU international students with strong communication abilities in both Chinese and English
- Enthusiastic about public service, responsible, and consistently fulfill scheduled volunteer shifts
- Prior experience in talent services or cross-cultural settings will be considered an advantage
