SISU's community cultural exchange center seeks volunteers

The Qushang "Language and Culture" Community Academy is calling for international student volunteers from Shanghai International Studies University (SISU).

The Qushang "Language and Culture" Community Academy was jointly established in 2023 by SISU's School of Chinese Studies and Exchange, the Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press, and Quyang Road subdistrict, aiming to promote cultural exchange and mutual learning between Chinese and international residents.

By the end of 2025, the academy had organized over 90 cross-cultural events, attracting more than 2,500 participants. It had received numerous municipal-level and higher honors and extensive media coverage, and had become a hub for international cultural exchange within Shanghai's communities, as well as a practice base for SISU students to engage with society beyond campus.

Who can participate?

- Current SISU international students with at least three months of study remaining.

- Passionate about public welfare, responsible, and equipped with strong cross-cultural communication skills and an international perspective.

- Able to commit to a stable schedule of service.

- Proficient in Chinese and a foreign language to facilitate smooth daily communication.

- Preferred qualifications: Previous volunteer experience or artistic talents.

What will volunteers do?

- Community service: Engage in community governance activities such as residents' needs surveys, resident services, and community environment beautification.

- Cultural exchange: Participate in cross-cultural events, serve as a cultural guide, and act as a bridge connecting different cultures.

- Cultural promotion: Join the SISU international student publicity team for multilingual outreach, showcase Shanghai's cityscape through video, and share the charm of local communities with the world.

- New media operations: Assist with graphic editing and video editing.
