Applying for a steward visa

Who can apply

Crew members performing duties on board an international train, an international aircraft, an international vessel or accompanying family member, and vehicle drivers engaged in international transportation services.

How to apply 

You can fill in your application form and make an appointment for the application online at the Chinese Visa Application Service Center.

What to prepare

  • Passport
  • One completed Visa Application Form with a recently-taken color passport photo; 
  • An Online Application Form completed, printed out and signed
  • Proof of legal status (applicable for those not applying for the visa in their citizenship country)
  • Photocopy of previous Chinese passports or previous Chinese visas (applicable for those who were Chinese citizens and have obtained foreign citizenship)
  • If it's not your first time to visit China, please provide a copy of previous Chinese visa and a letter of guarantee issued by a foreign transport company or an invitation letter issued by a relevant unit in China.

How to extend your steward visa

If you are in Shanghai and want to extend your tourist visa, you can submit an application to the Exit-Entry Administration of the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau.

Open: Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

You can make an appointment for application at the website of Government Online-Offline Shanghai. 

Documents required

  • Original, valid passport and visa
  • A completed Visa/Stay Permit/Residence Permit Application Form for Foreigners, and then go to the Exit-entry Administration of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau in person to take a free photograph
  • A certification letter issued by a relevant government department at or above the district level in Shanghai, or by a Shanghai civil aviation, railway, highway or port transport company.
