Chinese delegation attends 47th WorldSkills Competition

The 47th WorldSkills Competition takes place in the city of Lyon in France on Sept 10-15 – with an expected 250,000 spectators and a big contingent of Chinese competitors, including contestants from Shanghai.

According to the WorldSkills Competition official website, the event will see 1,400 competitors from 69 countries and regions across five continents. There will be 59 official skill categories and three demonstration events in the competition. 

This year's competition will feature the debut of six new skills on the WorldSkills stage, including additive manufacturing, digital construction, industrial design technology, photonics, renewable energy and robot systems integration. 

The venue for the competition, Eurexpo Lyon, covers an area of 140,000 square meters (14 hectares) – roughly the size of 26 football fields.

Recently, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People’s Republic of China formally established the Chinese delegation for the 47th WorldSkills Competition – consisting of 212 members, including 59 experts, 59 interpreters, 68 competitors, 26 staff members and media representatives. 

This will be the biggest delegation among all participating countries and with its participation in 59 events, it's the most extensive participation by the Chinese delegation in the history of the WorldSkills competition.

Shanghai will send eight competitors to participate in seven event categories – automobile body repairs, logistics and freight forwarding, Industry 4.0, website technology, floristry, health and social care, as well as hotel receptions.

Additionally, at the closing ceremony of the 47th WorldSkills Competition, Shanghai – the host city for the 48th WorldSkills Competition in 2026 – will receive the WorldSkills flag. 

According to previous announcements by the organizers, the 48th WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China, is scheduled to take place on Sep 22-27, 2026.

WorldSkills is an international Amsterdam-based charity that organizes world and national championships for vocational skills, held every two years in different parts of the world.
