Exploring the wonders of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Program overview
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is one of China's national treasures, with a rich history spanning thousands of years. It continues to play a unique role in people's healthcare today, promoting a natural and holistic approach that is increasingly recognized internationally. This program, initiated in 2012 and held annually during the summer, offers a variety of teaching formats, including lectures, experiential activities, and internships. It brings together international students with diverse cultural and educational backgrounds and Chinese volunteers to gradually explore Shanghai, understand Chinese culture, and delve into the magnificent world of TCM. The 2024 Shanghai Summer School (TCM Program) will be conducted offline at the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SHUTCM).
Main program content
The program's lecture series will systematically introduce TCM knowledge, covering foundational theories, diagnostic techniques, meridians and acupoints, common Chinese herbal medicines, and clinical applications of acupuncture and tuina. In addition to theoretical learning, students will visit locations such as the SHUTCM campus, the Shanghai TCM Museum, and affiliated hospitals to understand the practical applications of TCM, acupuncture, and tuina in clinical settings. The program also includes practical Mandarin language lessons for daily life and various activities to experience cultural Chinese traditions, including understanding traditional Chinese festivals. Students will have the opportunity to experience the charm of Shanghai, an international metropolis with rich multicultural atmosphere.

Program duration
Dates: June 10, 2024 (Monday) - July 5, 2024 (Friday) (four weeks)
Course hours and schedule: Approximately 150 hours, Monday to Friday, 9 am- 12 pm; 1:30 pm - 4 pm
Quota and scholarship
1. 20 participants of Shanghai Summer School Scholarship: Tuition, accommodation, and activity fees covered.
2. 20 participants with SHUTCM Scholarship: 10,000 yuan ($1,380) per head, including food, accommodation (double rooms), and activity fees.
3. 20 Shanghai Summer School Self-support: 20,000 yuan/person (including tuition, accommodation, and activity fees. Accommodation is based on double rooms).
Certificate
Students who successfully complete the program and pass the comprehensive assessment will receive a certificate of completion from the SHUTCM's International Non-degree Education Training.

Application method: Complete the application on https://apply.shutcm.edu.cn
Application requirements: Applicants must be between 18 and 50 years old, in good health, interested in TCM and traditional Chinese culture, and hold valid international insurance. Priority will be given to students majoring in medicine and related fields.
