Stars Over China: The Ancient Shu Civilization of Sanxingdui and Jinsha

Featuring 363 artifacts, including the latest archaeological finds fresh from preliminary cleaning, the exhibition is the largest display of the ancient Shu civilization outside its home province of Sichuan.

 

Who Is Leonardo da Vinci?

As the largest display of works by da Vinci (1452-1519) in China, Shanghai Museum's Who Is Leonardo da Vinci? is based on a dialogue between Renaissance masters, led by da Vinci and Chinese artists from the same period.

The highlight is La Scapigliata, or the lady with disheveled hair, from the collection of the Galleria Nazionale di Parma in northern Italy, the only oil painting of the artist that may be displayed overseas.

This exhibition marks the first official collaboration since the establishment of the Shanghai Metropolitan Area "1+8 City" Museums Cooperative Development Alliance.

The nine member institutions are the museums of Wuxi, Changzhou, Suzhou and Nantong in Jiangsu province, Ningbo, Huzhou, Jiaxing and Zhoushan in Zhejiang province, as well as the Shanghai History Museum.

The exhibition highlights industrialists' efforts in education and social welfare for their hometowns and reflects the interconnectedness of the nine cities in the Shanghai Metropolitan Area in terms of economy, society, and interpersonal exchanges while delving into the deep historical roots of the Yangtze River Delta region in industrial development, cultural heritage, and social sentiments.

This exhibition showcases Zhang Jian's significant contributions during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a model of patriotic, national, and private entrepreneurship. Through a wealth of historical artifacts and images, it highlights his practical efforts in nation-building, community support and hometown development, illustrating his lifelong patriotic sentiment. The exhibition also explores Zhang's embodiment of open-mindedness, the spirit of innovation, integrity, and social responsibility, demonstrating his strong ideology and pioneering spirit in practice.

 

The Life and Art of Women in Jiangnan region during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)

This exhibition features over 120 cultural relics from the Huzhou Museum collection, focusing on the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) in Jiangnan, the region south of the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. The exhibition includes paintings, calligraphy, jewelry, costumes, makeup and boudoir items, offering a glimpse into the daily lives of women in Jiangnan during the Qing Dynasty from the perspective of traditional literati and their unique artistic beauty. It also offers physical evidence and insights into the women's gradual emancipation from feudal constraints and pursuit of individual development.

 

The Starry Sky of Dunhuang

The Starry Sky of Dunhuang marks the Shanghai Astronomy Museum's inaugural self-curated exhibition, narrating the tale of Dunhuang culture and astronomy. Women's Power in Party History Special Exhibition

The Memorial of the First CPC National Congress and the China National Museum of Women and Children will co-host a special exhibition titled Women's Power in Party History. The exhibition highlights the remarkable achievements of the Chinese women's movement under the CPC's leadership, celebrating the contributions of female heroes and exemplary figures to the CPC's cause and the people. Through historical photographs, over 50 precious artifacts, and a comprehensive review of the past century, the exhibition vividly presents the touching deeds and noble spirit of 113 outstanding female heroes and role models who have shaped the Party's history.

 

Fujian Folklore Museum's Collection of Blue-and-white Porcelain Exhibition

Co-organized by the Shanghai Lu Xun Museum and Fujian Folklore Museum, the blue-and-white porcelain exhibition showcases 60 masterpieces, revealing the art's evolution from the Tang (618-907) to Qing (1644-1911) dynasties . Through 36 pieces/sets of fiber installation artworks by renowned artists, under five themes and in six display spaces, the exhibition interprets the link between fiber art and nature and guides people to philosophically think about the past and the future.

 

The Culture of the Han Dynasty

Shanghai's Minhang Museum is hosting an exhibition of 110 exquisite artifacts from the tomb of Marquis Haihun Liu He of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24). The tomb, excavated in 2011, is the largest and best-preserved of its kind discovered in China. The artifacts from Liu's tomb provide a comprehensive glimpse into the flourishing cultural period of the Han Dynasty.
