US logistics giant Prologis ups Hongkou investment

Amid mounting global economic uncertainty, the question is increasingly raised these days about how multinational corporations can maintain unwavering confidence in the Chinese market.
For Prologis Inc, a US-based titan in the logistics real estate sector, the answer lies in anchoring its regional operations in the thriving hub of Shanghai's Hongkou district.
China's economy is on a steady path to recovery, with vast potential in its consumer market, said Hamid Moghadam, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Prologis.
The company is committed to increasing its investments in China and capitalizing on the opportunities presented by the evolving consumer landscape, Moghadam added.
Adapting swiftly to market dynamics, Prologis China says it's fine-tuned its strategies, with policy support and efficient services from Hongkou serving as linchpins for its robust growth.
As the globe's premier modern logistics infrastructure investor and operator, Prologis operates across 20 countries, managing assets topping $198 billion and catering to 6,500 corporate clients worldwide.
Prologis first stepped into the Chinese market in 2003 and it established its China headquarters in Hongkou.
Over two decades, it has not only witnessed the meteoric rise of China's logistics sector but has also directly experienced the formidable support provided by Hongkou's top-flight business environment for corporate expansion.
The district has delivered precise and efficient support in headquarters policies, industry assistance, talent recruitment and more, steering a steady course for its business development.
It is said to place a premium on enhancing its business environment — focusing on meeting enterprise needs, fortifying the legal framework, streamlining administrative processes and acting to empower businesses.
Bolstered by Hongkou's backing, Prologis China has experienced rapid business growth. It has established 44 logistics centers in 24 key cities nationwide, covering a total of 5.3 million square meters.
It’s set up an efficient logistics network encompassing airports, seaports and highway hubs — catering to diverse sectors like retail, e-commerce, pharmaceuticals and automobiles.
In 2024, Prologis China was designated a regional headquarters by Hongkou, making it a torchbearer for foreign-funded enterprises in the district.
As such, it actively anticipates the district's future trajectory and is available to work with the local government and its partners to spur the logistics industry upgrade, bolstering Shanghai's rise as an international consumption hub.
From policy backing to precise services, from nurturing the industrial ecosystem to fostering innovation, Hongkou is seen to epitomize the adage that "a favorable business environment breeds productivity".
Prologis China's growth is said to mirror Hongkou's success at attracting global enterprises. Moving forwards, the district remains committed to drawing in more leading companies with its appealing business milieu, co-authoring new chapters in its high-quality development.
