DHI China strengthens commitment to Hongkou
DHI China, a subsidiary of the Danish Hydraulic Institute, has established itself as a trailblazer in China's water environmental management sector — capitalizing on the unique industrial strengths and exceptional business environment of Shanghai's Hongkou district.
Founded in 1964, DHI — an international water software development and engineering consultancy firm headquartered in Denmark — specializes in sustainable solutions for rivers, reservoirs, oceans, as well as urban and industrial water environments.
Since setting up operations in Hongkou last year, the DHI China team has grown to nearly 70 members — 80 percent of whom are highly educated engineers.
It offers professional consulting services, technical support and software solutions, including the MIKE suite of products, to a wide range of clients.
The services — which include water resource management and water quality optimization — use innovative technologies to address water environmental challenges in China and around the world.
Currently, the company has 802 software users and has conducted nearly 100 professional software technical training sessions, reaching over 20,000 trainees.
According to Kenneth Barrett, chairman of DHI China, the company's Decision Support System (DSS) R&D team has developed nearly 100 intelligent water management platforms for Chinese clients — covering flood and water quality management, emergency response, and other areas.
In response to China's complex water environmental governance needs, these platforms play a crucial role in flood warning, water quality monitoring, and other fields.
As for Hongkou's business environment, Barrett said that Hongkou offers a range of preferential policies for high-tech and environmental protection enterprises, helping to reduce operational costs and drive innovation and research.
Looking ahead, DHI China will continue to deepen its presence in China, leveraging the regional advantages of Hongkou to expand its business scope in the country and cultivating more talent in the water environment field through collaboration with Chinese universities, said Barrett.
