Maersk opens flagship logistics center in Shanghai
Danish shipping and logistics giant AP Moller-Maersk opened its flagship logistics center in the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone on Nov 20. The launch is expected to reinforce Shanghai's position as a key global hub for trade and logistics.
Enhancing logistics capabilities
Backed by an investment of over 1 billion yuan ($140.7 million), the facility spans 113,000 square meters and offers 147,000 sq m of storage space. Positioned near the Donghai Bridge, the center strengthens Maersk's ability to serve customers in China, across the Asia Pacific region, and worldwide.
Located within the Shanghai FTZ, the center benefits from policies that streamline customs procedures and support operational efficiency. One major advantage is the ability to manage bonded and non-bonded goods in the same warehouse, improving supply chain speed and flexibility. The site is also equipped to support both B2B and B2C fulfillment needs.
Lifting Shanghai's shipping strength
Maersk's new logistics center is expected to strengthen Shanghai's status as an international shipping center.
Shanghai Port has recorded strong performance this year, including a monthly throughput peak of more than 5.02 million twenty-foot equivalent units in August. Growth has been supported by the Gemini Cooperation between Maersk and German container shipping company Hapag-Lloyd, which began operations in February. As one of the core hubs in the Gemini network, Shanghai has seen rising transshipment volumes from surrounding countries.
Yangshan Deep-Water Port reported robust results. In the first half of the year, its international transshipment and consolidation volume reached nearly 2.7 million TEUs, a year-on-year increase of 10.6 percent.
Advancing smart, green logistics
The new center reflects progress in sustainable and technology-driven logistics. It features advanced systems and carbon-neutral initiatives designed to support long-term, environmentally responsible growth.
The quick turnaround from construction to full operation within two years highlights the strong business environment and policy support within the Lin-gang Special Area.
