Gattefosse elevates China hub with major Shanghai lab expansion

Marking two decades in the Chinese market, French lipid chemistry and plant extraction specialist Gattefosse has inaugurated its fully upgraded Technical Center of Excellence in Shanghai, reinforcing China's central role with the company's operations across Asia.

Located in Zhangjiang, the upgraded center has expanded by over 60 percent, integrating advanced personal care and pharmaceutical laboratories, a sensory analysis room, a clinical testing area, and state-of-the-art analytical instruments. This expansion reflects Gattefosse's ongoing commitment to the region.

Gattefosse Group CEO Eduardo de Purgly highlighted that China remains one of the group's top priorities for investment and growth, emphasizing that the company's long-term presence reflects the strong connection between France and China, rooted in shared values of innovation, expertise, and collaboration.

As a key hub in Asia, the center serves not only Chinese customers but also clients in Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia, developing locally tailored formulations and providing technical training aligned with global trends.

Jacky Chen, general manager of Gattefosse China, expressed confidence in the market, emphasizing that with this world-class facility and a highly skilled local team, the company is now better equipped than ever to support customers across China and Asia.

In personal care, Gattefosse China's experts design refined creams, balms, color cosmetics, and suncare formulations using unique emulsifiers and natural oils, pioneering wax ester technology for innovative textures.

In the pharmaceutical field, it continues to explore plant-based active ingredients and natural compounds, bridging modern science with traditional Chinese medicine to develop patient-centered, innovative medical solutions.
