Swiss manufacturer of precision tool grinding machinery Rollomatic opened its China regional solution center in the Xinzhuang Industrial Park in Shanghai's Minhang district on March 11.

Costing 30 million yuan ($4.14 million), the center serves as the company's hub for technological innovation and customer services in China.

It will integrate functions such as cutting tool grinding, sales and technical support — to offer swifter, more efficient localized solutions to customers across China and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

Since its founding in 1989, Rollomatic has evolved from being a provider of drills and carbide tools for the Swiss watch industry to a world-leading manufacturer of high-precision CNC grinding machines.

In 2016, the company established its wholly-owned subsidiary, Shanghai Rollomatic Trading Group Co Ltd, in Minhang district.

Since then, it has ramped up investments to expand its business — contributing to the economic growth of Minhang.

To further boost its development in China and to work better with local companies, Rollomatic decided to set up the solutions center in the district.

Gilles Frôté, chairman of Rollomatic Group, said the facility marked an extension of the company's production capacities. Frôté noted it was also an upgrade of its commitment to "working side by side with customers" — helping them to transition from traditional manufacturing to smart manufacturing.

Minhang, a pioneer in Shanghai's reform and opening-up, has long been a hotspot for foreign investment. The Xinzhuang Industrial Park, in particular, has attracted many high-quality foreign enterprises.

Currently, the district is home to nearly 11,000 foreign-funded companies. Moreover, 171 foreign-funded functional organizations and 112 Fortune Global 500 companies have invested or built factories here.

Most notably, 60 Swiss enterprises have settled in the district — including four regional headquarters of multinationals like the Straumann Group, the world's biggest dental implant manufacturer — becoming a key engine of regional economic growth.
