AT&S, an Austrian manufacturer of high-end integrated circuit substrates and printed circuit boards, has turned in a truly impressive performance in the massive market amid global economic uncertainties.

As Austria's biggest investor in China, the company recently announced plans to further invest in artificial intelligence in Shanghai's Minhang district.

AT&S established a production plant in the district's Xinzhuang Industrial Park in 2001 — producing high-precision printed circuit boards.

These boards cater to global top-tier manufacturers in mobile phones, automotive electronics, chips, servers, base stations and in other high-end consumer electronics sectors.

The surge in demand for high-performance computing chips, driven by the rise of generative AI globally, has positioned AT&S to capitalize on China's semiconductors self-sufficiency drive.

China's push for semiconductors autonomy is an inevitable trend in technological development, presenting vast collaboration opportunities for companies like AT&S, noted Zhu Jinping, chairman of the board of directors at AT&S China.

The company aims to deepen its partnerships with domestic semiconductors firms in advanced packaging, materials development and reliability testing to better support local innovation.

AT&S has also tapped into China's burgeoning smart new energy vehicle sector, delivering customized solutions such as autonomous driving assistance systems for domestic automakers.

Its high-precision printed circuit boards are widely used in chip packaging for electric vehicles battery management systems, in-car entertainment systems and autonomous driving assistance systems.

AT&S has maintained a longstanding presence in Minhang. Zhu praised the area's exceptional service mindset, saying, "The service orientation in Minhang is commendable and we have benefited from efficient and convenient 'one-stop' government services, which have provided solid support as we navigate an increasingly complex international environment. "

He also disclosed the company's plans to advance its photonic module base in Minhang.

Looking ahead, AT&S has set a global revenue target at between 2.1 billion and 2.4 billion euros ($2.4 billion-$2.74 billion) for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, with the Chinese market remaining a key growth engine.

"China is the linchpin of AT&S' global strategy," said Zhu. In his opinion, although the company is expanding its production capacity overseas, China's position as its largest single market remains unchanged.

Zhu added that AT&S plans to deepen its local presence by introducing advanced technologies, enhancing local R&D, optimizing supply chain management and integrating global resources with the local market, to maintain a competitive edge in the complex and ever-changing international landscape.
