Tech innovation accelerates in Putuo, Shanghai
During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, Shanghai's Putuo district has emerged as a dynamic hub of scientific and technological innovation. By leveraging resources of the Shanghai-Nanjing Industrial Innovation Belt, which involves Putuo and seven cities in Jiangsu province, the district has cultivated a robust ecosystem for research and development, forming a distinctive innovation brand.
In July, the Putuo district government, in collaboration with Feishu China, hosted the Forum on Mathematical Frontiers and Foundational Reconstruction of AI during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference. This event marked the establishment of two prestigious international mathematics laboratories in the district: the Fefferman Lab, focusing on fluid mechanics, and the Hitchin-Ngo Lab, specializing in geometry and physics.
Putuo showcased significant technological achievements, including Matrix Hyperintelligence's humanoid robots, Schneider Electric's "lighthouse factory", and East China Normal University's Financial Intelligence Engine. These advancements underscore the district’s growing prominence in the "Mathematics + AI" research domain.
As the starting point of the said innovation belt, Putuo has proactively developed a cross-regional collaborative innovation system. This approach has yielded substantial results in technology transfer, facilitated by a comprehensive "concept validation, pilot maturation, and industrialization" incubation framework.
By the end of 2024, Putuo boasted 346 small tech giants and 694 high-tech enterprises, ranking third among the city's central urban districts. With robust policy support, talent services, financial backing, and spatial resources, it continues to foster an environment conducive to scientific and technological innovation.
