WIKA opens new research and manufacturing base in Songjiang
German measurement technology leader WIKA Alexander Wiegand SE & Co. KG inaugurated its new research and manufacturing facility in Shanghai's Songjiang district on Nov 24.
The state-of-the-art base serves as the company's regional innovation center and its key hub for global technical collaboration.
With a total floor area of about 8,000 square meters, it integrates R&D, production, testing, and technical services, with a focus on advancing core technologies such as magnetostrictive, radar, and photoelectric level measurement.
Compared to its previous plant, the new base quintupled both its size and production capacity, supported by upgraded manufacturing facilities, testing equipment, and a refined process flow.
By relying on the digital development platform of WIKA's German headquarters, the facility will enable 24-hour global collaborative R&D.
Combining "German technology, Chinese resources, and Chinese speed", WIKA aims to strengthen its responsiveness and service flexibility, offering customized solutions and efficient delivery that meet clients' specific needs.
Having operated in China for 28 years, WIKA views the country as its second most important market worldwide.
As China transitions from "Made in China" to "Created in China", and as industries such as semiconductors, biopharmaceuticals, new energy, and new materials continue to grow rapidly, the demand for smart instruments is rising. This presents WIKA with strong opportunities to deepen its localized presence.
WIKA's decision to establish the new base in Songjiang was driven by confidence in China's market potential and the district's strategic advantages within the G60 Science and Innovation Corridor in the Yangtze River Delta region.
Songjiang's dynamic high-tech industrial ecosystem, rich talent pool, and supportive innovation policies align well with the company's long-term growth strategy.
WIKA plans to integrate into the G60 corridor's industrial ecosystem by working with local enterprises in advanced fields such as semiconductors and new energy.
Through joint research, customized solutions, and talent exchanges, the company aims to open new markets and achieve mutual success.
