Founded in Shanghai in 1896, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is one of the world's most famous institutions of higher learning among the longest histories.

It is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education and was jointly built with Shanghai Municipality.

After more than 100 years of unremitting efforts, SJTU has become a domestic first-class and internationally renowned university and has further defined its vision of becoming "comprehensive, innovative and international" world-class university.

The university currently has campuses totalling more than 300 hectares spread over the Shanghai districts of Xuhui, Minhang, Huangpu, Changning, Pudong New Area and Chongming.

SJTU boasts a total of 40 schools and departments, with 19,298 full-time undergraduates, 15,662 full-time graduate students, 1,898 international students and 4,257 full-time teachers.
