After more than a month of trial operation, Shanghai Metro has officially launched its luggage storage service, providing convenience to passengers needing temporary luggage storage.  

During the trial period, which lasted from July 27 to the end of August, passengers could store their luggage for free in 24 storage locations across a dozen metro stations in the city, including the Shanghai Railway Station, People's Square, and South Shaanxi Road. 

Since Sept 1, the luggage storage service has been expanded to 31 locations in the 12 stations, with a total of 736 lockers in three sizes available. Small lockers can store items the size of a backpack, medium lockers can hold items as large as a 20-inch suitcase, and large ones can accommodate a 28-inch suitcase.

The fee for using the service is 2 yuan (28 cents) per hour for small-sized lockers, 4 yuan per hour for medium-sized lockers, and 5 yuan per hour for large lockers, with a maximum daily charge of 12 yuan, 24 yuan, and 30 yuan, respectively. 

Passengers can use apps of the storage service providers, XiaoIron and Hive Box, to access the service.

The service is also available via the "Metro大都会" platform. To access it, open the "Metro大都会" app, click the "服务 (Service)" button on top, and check the "寄存柜 (Lockers)" icon. The app displays information on available lockers in each of the metro stations. 

Users may also use the "scan" icon on the top right corner in the "生活 (Living)" section of the "Metro 大都会" app to scan the QR code on the storage lockers.

According to the Shanghai Shentong Metro Group, the city's subway operator, more such lockers will be put into operation in the future in stations close to major shopping centers, tourist attractions, and transport hubs such as Xujiahui, Jing'an Temple, and Shanghai South Railway Station.

1. All lockers in metro stations are located within the fare zones. Passengers must go through a security check before storing their luggage.

2. Storage should not exceed 24 hours. Please plan accordingly. 

3. Storing flammable, explosive, toxic, or other prohibited items is forbidden.

4. The storage service is only available during normal operating hours at each metro station.
