Shanghai launches one-day travel pass for tourists
To make travel easier for international tourists, Shanghai's MaaS (Mobility as a Service) platform, or "Suishenxing", has introduced a new one-day travel pass.
The one-day pass integrates public transport with access to popular attractions. It allows unlimited rides on the metro, buses, and ferries for 24 hours from the time of activation.
The package also includes access to 10 popular attractions:
- For panoramic views: The Oriental Pearl Tower
- For a night cruise: Huangpu River Cruise
- For traditional gardens: Shenyuan Garden
- For history: Shanghai Museum of Sun Yat-sen's Former Residence, Soong Ching Ling Memorial Residence, and the Shanghai Jewish Refugees Museum
- For art: Centre d'Art Rodin, chi K11 Art Museum, Aurora Museum, and the Shanghai Film Museum
This flexible 10-choose-4 model ensures history buffs, art lovers, and families alike can create their perfect day.
For example, purchasing entry to the four highest-value attractions along with a transport day pass separately would cost around 548 yuan ($77). With the one-day travel pass, however, visitors can enjoy a promotional price of 249 yuan until Sept 15.
How to buy it
International visitors arriving in Shanghai can scan the above QR code or visit the "Easy Go" platform on Alipay — a one-stop service portal for inbound tourists. From there, navigate to the "Shanghai Coupon Pack" and then to the "Activities Discounts" section to access the purchase page.
The platform accepts international payment methods, including Visa and Mastercard.
After payment, users need to select an activation date and input their personal information. The pass can be registered using an overseas passport.
How to use the pass
The transport pass activates automatically upon its first use at a metro gate, bus validator, or ferry terminal and remains valid for 24 hours.
To activate the travel card, users need to select their desired visit date, submit their information for confirmation, and complete the booking. On the day of the visit, visitors must present the original ID document used for registration for verification. Access to each attraction is subject to its operating hours.
