How to spot scams in my next job search
Job seekers often encounter various scams during their search, and failing to recognize them can lead to serious financial or personal losses.
To help you stay alert, here are key strategies to identify and avoid common recruitment traps.
Verify agencies' licenses
When seeking jobs through employment agencies, first verify their business license and certifications. Cross-check any job postings on the company's official website or social media accounts to ensure authenticity.
Confirm postings via official sources
Always rely on official sources for recruitment information. Do not take listings at face value to prevent falling victim to false advertisements or scams.
Beware 'recruitment-to-training' scams
Be cautious at recruitment events where so-called “employers” attempt to persuade job seekers to pay for costly training programs that claim to guarantee employment.
Avoid 'recruitment-to-loans' schemes
Be skeptical of offers that promise unusually high salaries. Refuse any request to pay fees, rent, or purchase equipment, and never take out a loan as a condition for employment.
Refuse illegal charges
Be cautious of any request for upfront payments, including deposits, certification fees, uniform costs, or document processing fees. Verify whether these payments are legally required, and always ask for an official invoice stamped with the company seal as proof.
Identify employment discrimination
If you encounter discrimination based on gender, birthplace, ethnicity, race, or religion, report it immediately to your local human resources and social security departments.
Reject too-good-to-be-true offers
Maintain a realistic career outlook and avoid the mindset of making money quickly. Be wary of offers promoting "easy money for little work" or "guaranteed, substantial income." Conduct thorough research and ask detailed questions to avoid pitfalls.
Protect personal information
Verify employer credentials and positions through multiple channels. Avoid clicking unfamiliar links in job advertisements, and be cautious of any redirects to private chats on QQ or WeChat or requests to download additional apps. Never disclose bank details or online banking passwords.
Take action if scammed
Report any infringement on employment rights to your local human resources and social security departments. If subjected to recruitment fraud or a violation of personal safety or property loss, immediately contact the police.
