Shanghai to host inaugural International Light Festival

Shanghai is set to dazzle as its first-ever International Light Festival "Travel in Light" will open in September, bringing a month-long celebration of urban light and cultural art to the city from Sept 19 to Oct 18.

The Shanghai Exhibition Center will host a series of activities from Sept 19 to 27, including an opening ceremony on Sept 19 and a professional visitors' day on Sept 20. Public access begins from Sept 21 to 27. While professional visitors will be invited, the public can secure free tickets for scheduled time slots.

In addition to the main venue, the festival will unfold across 12 sub-venues in the districts of Pudong, Huangpu, Xuhui, Changning, Jing'an, Putuo, Hongkou, Yangpu, Songjiang, Qingpu, Fengxian, and the Lin-gang Special Area, each hosting activities for no less than seven days. Admission methods are determined by the organizers, with free entry as a general principle.

The festival will host a series of themed events centered around "One River (Huangpu River) and One Creek (Suzhou Creek)" at elevated roads, important commercial districts, tourist attractions, parks, and green spaces, as well as iconic landmark buildings:

- Exhibiting a series of architectural projection shows to promote "revolutionary culture", "Shanghai school culture", and "Jiangnan culture", allowing residents and tourists to immerse themselves in an artful play of light.

- Showcasing a collection of light art installations designed by top global design masters, reflecting the charm of Shanghai as a fashion capital and the achievements of urban renewal, offering residents and visitors a glimpse of the world's top light artistry.

- Presenting a range of globally leading landscape lighting products to create innovative benchmarks with industry influence, enabling residents and visitors to experience interactive light technology as well as AR/VR immersive experiences onsite.

The festival will also synergize with major events such as the Shanghai Tourism Festival, "Shanghai Summer" international consumption season, the World Design Capital event, and Shanghai Fashion Week, driving the development of the commercial, tourism, cultural, artistic, and exhibition industries.
