Shanghai launches international reinsurance exchange
The main forum of the 2024 Shanghai International Reinsurance Conference, held on Oct 23 in the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, marked the official launch of the Shanghai International Reinsurance Exchange.
The newly established facility aims to serve as a comprehensive hub, focusing on integrating institutions, facilitating business transactions, and improving risk management practices. It also introduces a unified registration service system to streamline market operations, support regulatory supervision, and encourage self-governance within the industry.
In conjunction with the launch, the second set of supporting business rules for the reinsurance exchange was introduced. Developed under the guidance of the National Financial Regulatory Administration and with input from market participants, these rules aim to balance growth and risk prevention. Covering both cross-border and domestic reinsurance activities, the regulations provide a framework for managing business operations, information sharing, and trading seats. This is expected to foster more efficient, standardized, and transparent market practices.
