Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with Dame Susan Langley, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, in Shanghai on March 27.

Gong underscored the importance of leveraging the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Shanghai and the City of London to strengthen exchanges and deepen cooperation in green finance, offshore finance, and fintech.

He said he hopes the two cities will jointly develop a multi-layered green financial system and diversified green financial products.

Gong also highlighted opportunities for cooperation in cross-border investment and financing, financial market connectivity, and the application of cutting-edge technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence in the financial sector.

Langley praised the longstanding cooperation between the two cities, noting that it has significantly boosted bilateral investment and contributed to the economic development of both China and the United Kingdom.

She said the two cities share many common development goals and visions, and expressed expectations for further collaboration in areas such as renminbi internationalization, green finance, and capital market connectivity.
