Shanghai sets new record for ship refueling in 2025
Shanghai Port's bonded bunkering fuel oil supply reached a record high of 4.55 million metric tons in 2025, up 9.5 percent year-on-year, as the port made notable progress in green bunkering services.
According to Shanghai Customs, the port handled 46,000 international vessels, up 2.85 percent year-on-year.
The port also advanced cleaner energy options for international ships. Bonded liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering volume rose by 54 percent to 712,000 cubic meters.
Shanghai Port is China's first and the world's third port capable of providing ship-to-ship bonded LNG bunkering with simultaneous operations.
In addition, the port supplied domestically produced green methanol for the first time, marking a breakthrough in sustainable shipping fuel.
These achievements support Shanghai's goal of becoming a world-leading international shipping center with a focus on digital and green transformation.
This year, Shanghai Port is pressing ahead with its green transformation, completing the year’s first bonded LNG bunkering for a container ship on Jan 3.
