The Jiangwan Historical and Cultural Block is a very special area in the center of Shanghai, combining Western urban planning concepts with traditional Chinese cultural elements.

Spanning 457 hectares in the northern part of Yangpu district, this block stands out as one of the 12 historical and cultural blocks in the city's downtown area.

The block's distinctive characteristics stem from the "Greater Shanghai Plan", a comprehensive blueprint developed in 1927 to create a modern city center for Shanghai.

Inspired by the father of modern China Sun Yat-sen's vision of establishing a "world port in Shanghai", this visionary plan adopted a radial road network layout and integrated a complex of historical architecture.

The meticulously designed road network featured streets named after Sun's　Three Principles of the People　and　Five-Power Constitution. This innovative approach aimed to create a harmonious and symbolic urban landscape.

Within the Jiangwan Historical and Cultural Block, visitors can explore a wealth of architectural treasures, including the former Shanghai municipal government building, the former Shanghai Library, the former Shanghai Museum and the Jiangwan Stadium.
